Appeal for raffle prizes to help fund research
THE Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce is again supporting Global Entrepreneurship Week in Hull and is hoping other businesses may do the same.
At GEW's celebration evening, which is taking place on Friday 18th November at the Guildhall in Hull, they will be holding a raffle to raise money for Action Duchenne who work to find a cure and improve the lives of sufferers of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The condition is fatal and urgently needs funds to be directed into global research for treatments to try and slow or halt the muscle deterioration.
There are around 2,500 people in the UK living with Duchenne Muscular dystrophy. Those with with the condition which affects boys, lose their ability to walk, usually between the ages of 8 and 10. It affects all muscles so their arms and core are usually next to see deterioration resulting in an inability to feed themselves. They need ventilators to breathe, which forces air into their lungs. Devastatingly heart and lung function also decreases and these complications take the lives of these youngsters. Life expectancy is short, as many boys die in their early teens but there are examples of men living to their 30s.
