Business takes off for Frazer Carter with airport hotel project

Business takes off for Frazer Carter with airport hotel project

Work in progress at the new hotel at Humberside Airport.

BUILDING envelope and cladding specialist Frazer Carter Group Ltd has marked its first anniversary by embarking on a six-figure project at a new hotel at Humberside Airport and securing a deal for its own expansion.

The company, which is based at The Deep Business Centre in Hull, has been engaged by developer Nightel Ltd to work on the Hampton by Hilton Hotel, the brand’s first move into the Humber region.

Graham JenkinsonFrazer Carter is also doubling its space at The Deep having increased its office team from one to four since launching in summer 2015.

Hull-based Nightel has been providing dedicated accommodation to workers in the offshore oil, gas and renewables workforces at Humberside Airport since 2007 and in recent years has developed its services to meet the needs of other air travellers.

The company already operates one hotel at the airport and another in Hull. The new addition represents a £7-million investment and is being supported by North Lincolnshire Council with a Regional Growth Fund grant.

Facilities will include a restaurant, bar, 24-hour fitness centre and on-site parking. The hotel is due to open next month.

Graham Jenkinson (right), who founded Frazer Carter with co-director Adam Carter, said: “We won the contract because of the strength of our contacts and business relationships, which is why we set up our own business in the first place.

“We haven’t worked for Nightel before but they became aware of our capabilities and awarded us the contract which is worth £300,000. We’ve just started the job and will complete it towards the end of July.”

Mr Carter will lead a team of 11 on site. Meanwhile the office team, which began with Mr Jenkinson operating from a pod at The Deep, will complete its move into a 500 square-foot suite.

Mr Jenkinson said: “Things have moved very quickly for us. We completed a project to cover the roof and walls of the 35,000 square-foot West Point Trading Park in Hull in April and in addition to the Hampton by Hilton job we’re working on contracts ranging from fitting a rain screen to a 1960s house to roofing work in the Lake District for a major holiday retreat business.

“The volume of work is increasing regionally and nationally with the result that we’ve needed more people and more space. The team at The Deep Business Centre have been very accommodating. They understand what we want and they’re working hard to help us move forward.

“It’s also a great location for our staff and it will become even better as the culture and leisure development takes shape at the nearby Fruit Market.”

Freya Cross, Business and Corporate Manager at The Deep, said: “Our service is based on working closely with all of our tenants to help them increase their space or downsize as required, and with little or no downtime.

“When businesses leave us it’s usually because they have developed to the point where they need to make a big move to their own premises. That provides more space to support the next success stories, of which Frazer Carter are a great example.”
