HullBID adds Farmers’ Market to city centre attractions

HullBID adds Farmers’ Market to city centre attractions

HullBID are hoping the farmers markets will be as popular as the Street Food Nights.

HULLBID has confirmed the latest addition to its array of city centre events and activities with the launch of a new outdoor market in the heart of the Old Town.

The first Hull Trinity Farmers’ Market will take place on Saturday 26 May in Trinity Square, with four more dates confirmed as the event builds on the success of the continuing programme of Hull Street Food Nights and the annual Yum! Festival of Food and Drink.

The additional dates are Saturday 30 June, Saturday 28 July, Saturday 25 August and Saturday 29 September. Each event will take place from 11am until 4pm.

The location has been selected specifically to support businesses in the Old Town and to promote the new-look Trinity Market, which opened fully earlier this year after a major refurbishment.

Kathryn Shillito, HullBID City Centre Manager, said: “The aim is to complement Trinity Market, not to compete with it. The traders at Hull Trinity Farmers’ Market will offer a selection of artisan foods, craft and gifts as well as farmed produce – items that people will enjoy and that are affordable.”

HullBID has activated its expanding network of contacts to bring in around 40 stallholders for the event, drawing on its experience of organising Hull Street Food Nights, eight annual Yum! Festivals and countless one-off markets and festivals to bring in quality traders and support city centre businesses.

Kathryn said: “Organising events is only a strand of what we do – HullBID works very hard year-round to help keep the city clean and graffiti free, and create a safe and secure environment in which businesses can operate – but we have a strong track record of delivering fantastic festivals and that has provided a solid foundation for the Hull Trinity Farmers’ Market.

“We know stallholders who can bring in other stallholders. We work with them on Hull Street Food Nights, and many were brought in for events including Victorian Christmas and Edwardian Easter, so between us we have a good idea of what will attract customers.

“The location in Trinity Square is perfect. Hull Trinity Farmers’ Market will dovetail with Trinity Market to offer something different. The first event coincides with the Minerva Gin Festival in Hull Minster and we are confident that the combination will attract more people into the Old Town. With our award-winning Hull Street Food Nights continuing throughout the summer and with the Yum! Festival in August, we are working hard to support city centre businesses.”

Hull Street Food Nights, which won this year’s Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Award (REYTA) for Remarkable Small Tourism Event, will continue in Zebedee’s Yard and Princes Dock Street on Thursday 7 June, Thursday 12 July, Thursday 2 August and Thursday 6 September.

The Yum! Festival of Food and Drink will this year be extended to three days and will take place in the Rosebowl and Queens Gardens from Friday 10 August until Sunday 12 August.
