East Yorkshire employee creates bus design to honour NHS

AN employee of Hull-based bus company East Yorkshire has used his artistic talents to create a bus design to honour the region’s NHS workers – featuring his sister, who works at Castle Hill Hospital.

Keith Holmes, who works in the bus company’s paint shop, has created a special panel for the back of a bus celebrating those who have helped the country through the coronavirus outbreak.

The panel, which was created using airbrushing techniques, features fundraising legend Captain Tom Moore and Keith’s own sister, Louise Gregory, who works in research at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham, assisting with COVID 19 studies. It features on the back of the company’s popular Hull heritage bus, which was designed and painted by Keith a few years ago.

Keith was inspired to create the design during lockdown, as he heard about the great work his sister and her NHS colleagues were doing on the front line.

“During lockdown, I saw how hard my sister and all the NHS staff were working, and I wanted to create something to show how grateful we all were,” Keith said. “I put my sister in the artwork to represent all the nurses and medical staff out there, who my bus driving colleagues see travelling to work day in, day out, and show how thankful we are for their dedication and courage.”

Ben Gilligan, Area Director of East Yorkshire, said: “Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, many of our team of key workers in our business have continued to work providing a service for fellow key workers such as Louise and her colleagues. I am proud of what they have done and it is great to showcase Keith’s talents as well as celebrate the commitment of those in the frontline of healthcare.”

The bus can be seen on local routes in and around Hull and East Yorkshire.
