Opportunity to change the world from your home-town as Ørsted recruits technicians in Grimsby

Opportunity to change the world from your home-town as Ørsted recruits technicians in Grimsby

Ørsted are currently recruiting wind turbine technicians to be based at the East Coast Hub in Grimsby

A recruitment campaign for leading renewable energy company Ørsted is currently underway and promises to bring over 20 new jobs to Grimsby.

A number of hopefuls will be offered the opportunity to work on what will become the world’s largest offshore wind farm, Ørsted’s campaign will see 23 wind turbine technicians take to the water and help generate clean electricity for the country.

Each of the new technicians will work on Ørsted’s east coast wind farms with a number being sited at Hornsea Two offshore wind farm which is currently under construction. Once complete, the array will be able to power over 1.3 million homes in the UK, generating 1.4 GW of green electricity through its 165 wind turbines.

The new tranche of technicians will be working in an exciting environment within a fast-growing industry for the world’s most sustainable company.

Georgea Cherrell, who has worked for Ørsted as a wind turbine technician since completing her apprenticeship at Novartis two years ago. Keen to encourage diverse applicants, she said: “There are so many opportunities for progression at the company. My manager constantly supports me and pushes me to try new things.

“I particularly enjoy taking part in troubleshooting tasks whilst offshore as it gets you thinking differently and working as a team to overcome obstacles together.”

Over half of Ørsted’s Grimsby based employees work as wind turbine technicians and are located at the East Coast Hub, the world’s largest operations and maintenance facility. With over 80% of the workforce living within an hour’s drive of the facility, Ørsted encourages local talent to apply for roles within the organisation.

Former Royal Artillery Soldier and Officer, Paul Hazell, lives in Barton Upon Humber and is now the Operations Manager for Ørsted: “Thanks to my time in the forces, I was able to transfer a number of my existing skills to the role that I’m in now. Every day is different and I’m encouraged to think creatively about new ways of working. My colleagues are fantastic and morally I’m proud to playing my part in the battle against climate change.”

If you’re interested in this exciting opportunity to change the world, you can apply for the role via Ørsted’s vacancy page on their website.
