Restaurant operator has new recipe for success

Restaurant operator has new recipe for success

Paul White from Garness Jones.

A RESTAURATEUR who has served up a world tour of cuisine at venues across Hull promises something new again when he opens only his second outlet in Beverley.

Chamber member Garness Jones acted in respect of the former North Bar Within property Farthings Bar and Grill, which has now been leased by Alonzo Goulbourne.

He said: “It will be a restaurant and bar but it will be cool and different. We are getting everything ready now but I’m not going to say anything about the type of food or anything else until we’ve got it 100 per cent right.

“At the moment we are concentrating on conservation issues. It’s a beautiful building with a great garden and we want to fit with the heritage and history of Beverley.”

Paul White, Agency Director of Garness Jones, said the new restaurant will add to the appeal of Beverley and will benefit from other investment in the town.

He said: “There has been significant investment throughout Beverley with Flemingate, which is still taking shape, with the new venture by J D Wetherspoon at the Cross Keys and with Roots.

“The new restaurant, which is expected to open in March, will be an attraction in its own right in keeping with all of Alonzo’s previous projects. It will add something unique to a dining scene which already has a great deal of quality and variety.”

Mr Goulbourne and his family opened Roots in New Walkergate, Beverley, in December 2015, adding to a portfolio of restaurants in Hull which includes the original Roots in Newland Avenue, Mexican themed El Chupitos, also in Newland Avenue, and Fish and Chip Kitchen and Aunt Bibby’s Smokehouse, both on Princes Avenue.

Mr Goulbourne added: “We like to keep coming up with different ideas. People look at what sort of restaurants there are in other major cities, but we want people in those cities to be looking at what we have in Hull and Beverley.”

John Hawley, of Hawleys Auctioneers and Valuers who own the property, said: “When Farthings closed there was a blaze of interest in the building but that petered out until Alonzo came along. We were very impressed with his other enterprises and all I can say about his plans here are that he is bang on trend!”
