Winter warmers as 1884 Wine and Tapas Bar presents Rioja night
AWARD-WINNING restaurant 1884 Wine and Tapas Bar is welcoming the winter with a warming combination of fine wines, gorgeous game and delicious dark chocolate at its next wine night.
The restaurant will be joined by Sandy Greetham, a wine expert from Matthew Clark, who will present an array of Riojas specially selected to be paired with the delicious, one-off dishes which make the most of seasonal produce.
It will take place at 1884 Wine and Tapas Bar at Wellington Street West, at the corner of Hull Marina, at 7pm, on Friday 9 November.
The mouth-watering menu will open with a Manchego and rosemary focaccia, Spanish olives, roasted red peppers, paella rice balls and a selection of cured meats with a winter slaw and red pepper aioli accompanied by a Vina Real Rioja Blanco.
A Contino Rioja Reserva will then be served with chef’s five-spice guinea fowl, mixed game and cranberry terrine with home-made crostini and sweet red onion chutney, and a confit of pheasant with a winter slaw and cranberry vinaigrette, all served with pan-fried parsnips in a garlic bitter and toasted walnut glaze.
Red is the selection again as Vina Real Rioja Crianza arrives with crispy prawns in a white wine and citrus batter served with a winter slaw and red pepper aioli accompanied by a whole sea bream with winter vegetables, toasted walnuts and tarragon and thyme butter sauce.
Dessert of chocolate and orange cheesecake with an orange and ginger compote, plus blue cheesecake with a blueberry and redcurrant glaze comes with a Vina Real Rioja Rosado.
A Vina Real Gran Reserva will then be served with a selection of cheeses and crackers.
