Bransholme Fire Station upgrade completed by Hobson & Porter
AN extensive refurbishment to Hull’s Bransholme Fire Station has been completed by construction firm Hobson & Porter.
The upgraded facility includes a new boiler room, gymnasium, welfare pods, appliance bay, dormitories and shower facilities, and a refurbished kitchen area.
Works began in late 2016, when Hobson & Porter’s Minor Works division began the process of upgrading Bransholme Fire Station’s internal facilities.
The station, which was built in 1976, is currently occupied by 24 full-time personnel.
The refurbishment is the third scheme Hobson & Porter has undertaken for Humberside Fire and Rescue Service in the last two years. The firm also previously transformed Immingham West Fire Station in North Lincolnshire into a purpose-built training facility, and delivered a state-of-the-art station at Clough Road in North Hull.
Paul McKenzie, Project Manager for Hobson & Porter said: “Because of the essential services the fire station provides, it was imperative that the building was kept operational at all times during the project.
“This required the project to be delivered in a series of phased works, and our team had to take into account considerations such as access to the site, segregation of work areas and minimising noise and dust.
“We received extremely positive feedback from Humberside Fire & Rescue Service for our approach to the project, and our care for the station and surrounding public areas was praised in an audit from the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS), who awarded the team high scores for ‘Appearance’ and ‘Respect for the Community’. We are one of only 60 companies in the UK with ‘Partner’ membership of the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS), and this is reflected in our approach to working on this upgrade.”
