THE Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, Harriet Harman QC visited Grimsby ahead of the forthcoming General Election to hear about issues affecting the Humber region.
The leading Labour MP has hit the campaign trail in her bright pink Woman to Woman battlebus and came to Grimsby in support of Parliamentary Candidate Melanie Onn. Ms Harman attended an informal meeting with Anne Tate, manager of the Chamber’s South Bank office and other Chamber members, including Freshney Place Shopping Centre Director Amanda Austin who is also a Chamber board member and the Chair of DiscoverNEL.
The event was held at Abby’s Wine Bar and Bistro, in Abbeygate, Grimsby. Anne Tate said: “During the meeting I put to her the specific difficulties faced by coastal towns and asked whether the Labour Party, if elected, would look into their plight and make monies available for regeneration?
“Ms Harman agreed help was required for those towns ‘at the end of the line’, that good transport infrastructure was vital for connectivity and that if elected they would set up a Ministerial task force”.
Ms Harman was given a copy of the Discover NEL brochure to take away with her.
