Chamber calls on Government to nationalise British Steel NOW!

THE Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce is calling on the Government to immediately nationalise the British Steel plant in Scunthorpe to protect its blast furnaces and keep thousands of local jobs, both at the plant and in the wider supply chain.

CHAMBERS AND NORTH SEA TASKFORCE CALLS FOR URGENT ACTION

1.The North Sea Transition Taskforce has called on the Government to rapidly establish a long-term, integrated plan to deliver
a just energy transition in the North Sea.

2. Its new report finds the window of opportunity to secure the future of the North Sea is closing fast. But acting now could
deliver economic growth, green jobs, energy security and climate leadership.

3.The Taskforce makes a series of recommendations, including:

4. Replacing the current windfall tax with a more proportional system

5. Creating a minister-led North Sea Transition Committee to coordinate action across Government

6. Developing a long-term framework for large-scale investment in low carbon technology
