THE Chamber’s Shipping & Transport Committee set sail for Myton Law’s smart new offices on the banks of the River Humber for its September meeting.
The law firm, which handles shipping, transport, international trade and insurance law, recently moved into Riverside House, on Hull’s historic Victoria Pier, following a £650,000 restoration of the building which was originally home to William Westerdale who was a mast and block maker.
During its time, the Nelson Street building has been home to many merchants and shipping companies, but had been left empty and unloved for the last 10 years.
Riverside House has been sympathetically restored and is now impressive and modern, but many original features, like the imposing main staircase, have been carefully refurbished. It was officially opened in April by the then Admiral of the Humber, Lord Mayor Coun Mary Glew, in recognition of Riverside House’s long maritime history and Myton Law’s long-standing involvement in the sector.
Solicitor Gordon Sewell said: “We knew the Chamber’s Shipping & Transport Committee was looking for new venues and a change of scene, and we were very pleased to host the meeting and show off our new offices.
Myton Law’s James Westwood gave the committee an update on some changes to aspects of commercial law which will affect member businesses.
Committee Chairman Graham Cross thanked Myton Law for hosting the meeting and congratulated the firm on its restoration of Riverside House. He said: “It’s great to see such an historic building being so sympathetically restored, and I liked the framed front page of Lloyds List dating from the 1970s hanging in the hallway and the section of old plasterwork which has also been saved and framed for all to see”.
