THE Driffield Agricultural Society, organisers of the annual Driffield Show, are to host their first ever Countryside Careers Evening to showcase the wide variety of career opportunities available in the region’s countryside economy.
This free event is open to all students aged 11 to 16 years (Key Stage 3 and 4), parents, carers and school groups between 4 and 8pm on Wednesday 24 May 2023 at The Showground, Kelleythorpe, Driffield, YO25 9FB. Promoted to all Secondary Schools in Hull and the East Riding.
Over 50 businesses and organisations from a wide variety of industries and learning providers will come together on one evening and in one place on the Showground to give an insight in to future career paths and give rural businesses an opportunity to find their future employees.
Businesses from right across rural industry will be represented, including agriculture (both livestock and arable farming), agriculturally related industries, engineering / mechanical engineering, conservation, renewable technologies and supply chains, professional practices, and local and further education establishments. East Riding has over 7000 rural businesses employing around 49,000 people with agriculture, forestry and fishing being the most common industries but there is a huge and diverse range of industries. Around 44% of East Riding residents live in the countryside.
‘The Countryside Careers Evening’ is about inspiring the workforce of the future for a career in East Riding’s rural economy. It’s a superb opportunity for students, parents / carers, and teachers to meet local and national employers, businesses, colleges, and apprenticeship providers to help plan next steps and future opportunities.’ Said David Tite, Chief Executive, Driffield Agricultural Society.
