New-build care home creates prominent landmark in Beverley Parklands

New-build care home creates prominent landmark in Beverley Parklands

The new 73-bed Beverley Parklands Care Home.

BEVERLEY Parklands Care Home, the new 73-bed residential care facility developed by East-Yorkshire based care provider Yorkare Homes has welcomed its first residents.

The facility, which occupies a prominent position by the A1174 to the South-East corner of the town, is a triumph of traditional build techniques, cutting-edge architecture and a unique, high-end fit-out which is individually tailored for those with specific health needs.

Based in Brantingham East Yorkshire, Yorkare Homes is an award-winning care home provider with a dedication to individuality and distinction. The family company has built a strong reputation for creating high-quality environments and an individual level of care for each of its residents. It is an approach which saw Magdalen Hall in Hedon and Lindsey Hall in Cleethorpes win the Pinders Healthcare Design Award in 2015 and 2017 respectively.

The construction of the new Beverley Parklands Care Home is a product of the continuing relationship between Yorkare and Hobson & Porter. The Hull-headquartered construction company, which works across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, saw the completion of Beverley Parklands mark the second successive care home project delivered for Yorkare Homes, having handed over the Lindsey Hall Care Home in Cleethorpes just over a year ago. Unlike Beverley Parklands, Lindsey Hall was a complex refurbishment project, retaining an original 1925 school building in its entirety, whilst integrating a whole host of new features both inside and out, including four private sensory gardens with allotments.

During the construction of the award-winning facility on Clee Road, Hobson & Porter strengthened its supply chain considerably, with many of those suppliers retained and re-mobilised at Beverley Parklands to create partnering and collaboration throughout the project delivery team.

Duncan Wilson, contracts manager for Hobson & Porter, said: “It has been a privilege to work with Yorkare Homes once again. Over the past two and a half years we have embedded a firm understanding of Yorkare Homes’ aims, standards and methods throughout the Hobson & Porter team.

“Whilst each Yorkare Homes build has the same excelling standards, each equally boasts its own individuality and uniqueness, creating a fresh set of challenges with each build.

“Through close partnering with the client, we are able to remain agile and responsive throughout the construction, allowing the client to continually evolve and bring forward new ideas which were not part of the original design. It is this dedication to superior resident experience which makes these projects an exciting and rewarding challenge.”

One key aspect that has helped make Beverley Parklands Care Home something of a landmark on the A1174 is the large resident balcony to the front-aspect, creating two levels of all-weather outdoor communal space which can be enjoyed by residents throughout the year.

Unlike many facilities or buildings of this scale, Beverley Parklands was constructed using traditional brick and block methods as opposed using steel, timber or other rapid-build construction techniques. One driver for this was the emphasis on providing a traditional home environment for residents as opposed to a clinical or healthcare-led environment. The striking architectural and functionality of the building is thanks to Fluid Design Associates, based in York, who also worked on Yorkare Homes’ award-winning care homes in both Hedon and Cleethorpes.

The care for detail and consideration for residents runs throughout the facility, with each of the 73 rooms being at least 35% larger than the minimum size stipulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), with some being more than double the size required. No two rooms are the same thanks to Yorkare Homes’ approach to personal touch and a lack of standardisation, with subtle differences made to the layout and decoration of each and every room.

In the social areas, the determination to offer a better resident experience remains, with area ratios again far exceeding the minimum requirements set by the CQC. Iconic and nostalgic street scenes have become synonymous with Yorkcare Homes facilities and Beverley Parklands is no different with facilities including an in-house pub, a cinema and a hair and beauty salon, each placed among other nostalgic shop fronts and windows containing local memorabilia which provide a positive experience for residents living with dementia. The aim is for residents to enjoy a high standard of independent living, stirring memories and inspiring nostalgia.

Jonathan Garton of Yorkare Homes said: “Beverley Parklands Care Home has benefited from the considerable experience and resources from our previous successes in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. We have worked with Hobson & Porter, as well as Fluid Design Associates and much of the same supply chain for several years now. The project stakeholders each know the standards and expectations of a Yorkcare Homes build, yet acknowledge the journey we are on to continually improve and evolve so that we maintain a market-leading resident experience.

“We were delighted to be able to welcome our first residents in late September. With the number and variety of facilities we have created here, we are very confident they will enjoy the very highest standard of living and health care.”
