Recipe for fun as evening economy takes on a new flavour with Hull Street Food Nights
STREET food specialists who are making an impact regionally and nationally are joining forces to deliver a series of events aimed at bringing the Hull city centre business community together after work.
Hull Street Food Nights, which start on Thursday 20 April, will combine great food, drink and entertainment in the new-look Trinity Square. With a start time of 4pm, the package is designed to attract people after they’ve left their city centre shops and offices.
It is also expected to produce a spin-off for other food and drink businesses as crowds take the opportunity to make a night of it after the 9pm close.
Kathryn Shillito, HullBID City Centre Manager, said: “We came up with the idea of Hull Street Food Nights after talking to our contacts in food, drink and entertainment and between us we have put together a programme which can really help the city centre evening economy.
“It will feature high-quality, award-winning food and drink and fantastic entertainment which we hope will attract people into the city centre, and the starting point is to target the people who are already here. We’re already getting good feedback from people who work in the city centre and plan to delay their journey home to enjoy the fun with friends and colleagues.”
After Thursday’s event, Hull Street Food Nights will continue on 25 May, 22 June, 27 July, 17 August and 21 September. They are sponsored by the Tesco stores in Hull and supported y All Occasions, the Hull-based leader in the supply of marquees and other equipment for major events.
Among the businesses taking part is Shoot the Bull, which has added more accolades to its prize for Best Street Food at The Food Awards England 2016. Also involved is Kerb Edge, the gourmet burger business which has been a leader in the development of the street food sector and has now embarked on a £40,000 investment programme to build a national profile.
Other businesses selling their wares include Tapasya@Marina, Go Dutch Pancakes and Cocoa Chocolatier, with drinks from local bars and brewers including Oscars Bar, Rift Bar and Furley & Co.
The entertainment programme will be led by Mark Page – aka DJ Mak – and will feature live performances by local bands including Delta Vega, Fronteers and the HarriWatts Band. There will also be fire performers, stilt walkers Indian dancers and acrobats.
