Safety's a priority as Barton Street works continue
THE first phase of maintenance works, managed by North East Lincolnshire Council’s delivery partner Equans, was completed last week. This phase involved small sections of the highway being shut to carry out drainage and carriageway repairs, vegetation cutting and sign cleaning.
The second larger phase which started on Monday, 24 July, involves a longer and larger closure for resurfacing. The work is being undertaken between Laceby Manor and Barnoldby le Beck roundabout and will be completed on Friday 11 August.
A full road closure is required to ensure the work can be carried out safely and efficiently. It will be in place Monday to Friday, 7.30am until 6pm, with a diversion between the A46 and the A16.
A North East Lincolnshire Council spokesperson stressed the importance of such work on what is one of the borough’s busiest main roads.
“After major works several years ago now, it is vital that we keep on top of the maintenance and repairs needed to keep the A18 in the best possible condition. It is a road that takes a significant amount of traffic, including heavy lorries, and we simply cannot afford to let it fall into any state of disrepair.
“Whilst we appreciate this does cause delays and inconvenience, especially at peak times, it is important to remember this is being done to ensure, as much as possible, the safety of all those who use it.”
Access to residential properties and business premises within the closure will be maintained as far as practicable, however, please note the following:
- Access between Brigsley and East Ravendale will be maintained across Ashby Hill roundabout throughout the closure.
- Access to Laceby Manor, The Willows, Oaklands Garden Centre, and Best Western Oaklands Hall Hotel will only be accessible from the A46 Laceby crossroads roundabout.
- Access to Willow Lakes and Landmark Café will be maintained via Ashby Hill roundabout.
Access between Beelsby and Barnoldby le Beck will not be maintained via the A18 within the closure, access will be maintained via the Ashby Hill roundabout through East Ravendale.
