VIPs to visit region as SUN-AIR launches new Denmark to Humberside Airport route
AN exciting announcement from Humberside Airport and SUN-AIR, a franchise partner of British Airways, means people from across the region can now jet off to two major airports in Denmark.
The airport, which has flights across Europe to destinations such as Amsterdam and Majorca, has announced that the first scheduled flights to Aalborg and Billund will commence on April 17, 2016.
The first people to fly into Humberside on this major new flightpath will be 25 VIP guests who are visiting the region from Billund.
SUN-AIR, the franchise partner of British Airways, will be the flight operator for this new route, which will help spark an economic boost to the Humber and its burgeoning renewables industry, providing direct flights to and from airports close to Siemens Wind Power bases in Vejle, Brande and Esbjerg. Siemens Wind Power worked in close co-operation with Humberside Airport and SUN-AIR to secure the deal.
The new route will also open up new opportunities to families in the region, with Billund Airport, situated close to the original Legoland, and Aalborg perfect for city breaks.
Deborah Zost, Humberside Airport’s Managing Director, said: “We are excited about the new opportunities that this service will bring to the Humber region. It is great news not only from a commercial perspective, but it also provides further destinations for people across the region to explore. It also establishes links with Scandinavia for European tourists to visit Hull as part of the UK City of Culture celebrations in 2017.
“Our customers are now only two hours away from European tourist destinations such as Legoland, broadening the options for people in terms of weekend breaks and holiday destinations.
“Humberside Airport remains committed to providing our customers with routes to popular destinations, ensuring they don't have to travel far to be able to access mainland Europe and other parts of the UK.”
SUN-AIR’s Commercial Director Kristian Tvergaard said: “Our strategy is to offer direct routes in close cooperation with the regional business sector, and we pursue this policy with the opening of the route Humberside – Aalborg - Billund.
"We have worked closely with Siemens Wind Power and Humberside Airport to bring this valuable niche market opportunity to life.”
The first flight will be arriving at Humberside Airport at 7:35am on Friday, April 15th, bringing in 25 VIP guests from Billund.
The guests will be hosted in Hull by the Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce has worked tirelessly over the last few years to strengthen ties with Danish companies as the Humber renewables industry continues to grow.
The delegates will visit various locations in Hull and will have lunch with the Lord Mayor Anita Harrison.
Pauline Wade, Director of International Trade at Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce, said: “The Chamber has been working with Humberside Airport and SUN-AIR since November 2015 to facilitate the twice weekly service between Denmark and the regional airport of Humberside and inspired Siemens and SUN-AIR to come together to make the vision a reality.
“Better air connectivity with Europe and the rest of the world is essential if we are to attract further inward investment to Green Port Hull and the wider Humber region.
“Siemens are key investors in Green Port Hull and this new service will cut commuting time between the company's Danish operations and the new blade factory in Hull.”
