Potential bus drivers given a chance to take the wheel
BUS company East Yorkshire has announced that it will be launching a recruitment drive in Hull, as lockdown restrictions lift and buses start getting busier.
The company is giving local residents the chance to train to become bus drivers to help run its network of services in the city and beyond.
To help give people a chance to see what bus driving is like, they will be holding a socially distant recruitment day at the KCOM Stadium on Sunday 9 May, 10am-3pm.
Potential new recruits can ask any questions they have about the job, see what the training involves, and even have a go at driving a bus, to see if it’s the career for them. They will also have the chance to apply for a job on the day, if they wish.
East Yorkshire offers full training for anyone they take on to be a bus driver, with recruits taught all the skills they need to gain their bus licence. All you need to get started is to have held a full UK driving licence for two years, and to be friendly and customer focused.
Ben Gilligan, East Yorkshire’s Area Director, said: “As lockdown starts to ease and people are able to start travelling further afield, we’re seeing more and more people using the buses for days out, or just to meet up with friends and family.”
“We’re recruiting extra drivers, and we want to give people in the local area an opportunity to start a brilliant new career in bus driving.”
“We know lots of people have lost their jobs during the pandemic, and there are loads of transferable skills which people may have that would make them a great bus driver. No matter whether you’re a retail worker with lots of customer service experience or someone who’s had a driving job before, we’d love to give you the chance to start a satisfying new career where you meet loads of people and every day is different.”
Those who want to find out more about becoming a bus driver or attending the recruitment day should visit East Yorkshire’s website at www.eastyorkshirebuses.co.uk . Alternatively, visit the recruitment day at the KCOM Stadium any time 10am-3pm on Sunday 9 May. Please note the recruitment day will be held outside, so you should dress suitably for the weather, as well as bringing a face covering and adhering to social distancing.
