Journalist and author Phil Ascough becomes President as Chamber celebrates its 180th anniversary year
PHIL Ascough has become the new President of Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce as the Chamber celebrates its 180th anniversary year.
The author and former Business Editor of the Hull Daily Mail became President at the Chamber’s recent annual meeting, with Sally Booker, from P&O Ferries, becoming the new Vice President.
Making his first speech as President, Phil explained that his first encounter with the Chamber was as a reporter with the Yorkshire Post in Hull during the 1980s. He told his audience that joining the Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce was his top priority when he set up his own media and PR consultancy, Ascough Associates, in 2009.
“No other business organisation has the depth of knowledge, reach and influence at so many different levels as the Chamber of Commerce has – and that is as true today as at any time in my experience,” Phil said.
Phil, who has also worked for the BBC, Press Association and the Royal Gazette in Bermuda, added that he is proud to become Chamber President and is looking forward, along with Sally, to getting out and about and meeting more of the members as and when their busy day jobs allow.
