Yum! Festival 2017

Yum! Festival 2017

2016 Yum! Festival of Food and Drink at the Rose Bowl in Queens Dock Avenue.

Food fans will be able to eat their way around the world without leaving Hull city centre when the seventh annual Yum! Festival of Food and Drink takes place this weekend.

The array of international delights will take discerning diners on a trip from hearty English favourites through the cuisine of the European continent and the spice of Asia and the Far East all the way to the flavours of the Americas, with a Caribbean kick!

More than 80 businesses from Hull and the surrounding area will showcase their wares at the biggest Yum! Festival yet. All the action will take place on Friday and Saturday from 10am until 6pm, with stalls extending from the Rose Bowl fountain into Queens Gardens.

The Festival has again been organised by HullBID and is expected to be more popular than ever as a result of the pulling power of the Yum! spin-off events – the hugely successful Hull Street Food Nights.

Kathryn Shillito, HullBID City Centre Manager, said: “The Yum! Festival presents a great opportunity for our food and drink producers and retailers to build their businesses and become established and recognised across the region, whilst maximising on the benefits Hull 2017 brings with added interest and visitor numbers. We’re excited that in 2017 we’ve added a greater variety of food stalls, seeing the event expand fully into Queen’s Gardens.”

Regulars from Hull Street Food Nights taking part in Yum! include Kerb Edge, Go Dutch Pancakes, Shoot the Bull and Tapasya. Cocoa Chocolatier, Sugar ’n’ Spice and The Tea Shop are among the many city centre businesses taking part. Alcoholic and soft drinks will be served by Oscars, Humber Street Distillery, The Old House and the Yorkshire Brewing Company amongst others.

The festival, which is sponsored by Tesco Extra in Hull, will also feature, One Minute Chef and Instagram star Miguel Barclay, who will call in on Saturday for a lunchtime demonstration ahead of signing his new book at Waterstones on Jameson Street.

There will also be live music and some chill-out tunes spun throughout the day from the Yum! resident DJ, and free children’s entertainment will range from face painting, balloon modelling and magic to crazy golf, giant games, cupcake decorating and healthy cookery classes.

Kathryn added: “The Hull Street Food Nights have been phenomenally successful and will continue throughout the summer but Yum! is where it all started. Once again there will be a huge selection of offers from food and drink retailers, restaurants and venues throughout the city centre to tickle the taste buds and help people save money which will complement two days of fantastic street food, fresh local produce, and a bustling market.”

The Yum! Festival of Food and Drink will take place in Queens Gardens from 10am until 6pm on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 August. The remaining Hull Street Food Nights will take place in Zebedee’s Yard and Princes Dock Street on Thursday 17 August and Thursday 21 September.
